It's a complex and ongoing financial cycle, created to control the population without incurring any expenses by loaning them fiat currency and involving them in the government's labor force. This notion is frequently backed by the argument that fiat money is backed by gold, but that's unfounded. If it were true, why wouldn't gold be directly traded instead of fiat currency?
